QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR LAWYER

By Zach Russell

When working with your lawyer, they will ask you various questions about your case. This is to ensure you get the best case results. However, this is not a one-way street. You should be asking your legal counsel just as many questions. This will make sure you have a firm understanding of your own case and how your lawyer will help you.

Asking questions is key but sometimes it’s a challenge thinking of what to ask your attorney. Here are a few important questions to remember when speaking with a lawyer:

1. What are some variables that affect my case?
This question is extremely beneficial to your situation. Each case can vary so it is important to know a basic outline to plan accordingly.

2. How many personal injury cases have you taken on and what were the results?
You need to know the quality of your lawyer and their past success. This will give you an idea of their experience and how they will handle your case. Their answer might determine whether you become a client or say, “no way!”

3. Do you have testimonials from past clients I can see?
This is a great follow up question to hear firsthand about your lawyer’s case history. Past clients make an excellent reference since they can tell you about their personal experience.

4. Have you ever been suspended from practicing law?
The reputation of your lawyer is vital to your decision of having them help you with your case. If this answer is yes, ask them what the reasoning for their suspension was? You can then decide to become their client or not.

5. What areas of law do you specialize in?
If you are involved in a personal injury case, you will want a lawyer that specializes in that area.

6. Do you have time to take on my case?
Depending on the size of the firm, the law office might not have time to take you on as a client. You want to find an attorney who will put time and special care into your case.

7. How much do you charge your clients?
One of the most important factors when looking for legal help is whether or not you can afford the lawyer you are speaking with. Make sure to ask this question early on. At AKD Law, you can also take advantage of a FREE case evaluation.
